Germany
early 20th Century
This Kayserzinn pewter vase, model 4046, is a striking example of early 20th-century Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) metalwork, produced by the prestigious Kayserzinn workshop in Cologne. Known for its bold, expressive forms and symbolic decoration, this vase features a deep body flanked by dramatic boar’s head handles, a motif often associated with strength, protection, or mythological references.
Originally fitted with a lid—now missing— and made of fine cast pewter, it carries the hallmark fluid curves, sculptural detail, and matte silver-gray finish that defined Kayserzinn pieces made between 1894 and 1925.
Despite the missing lid, the vase remains a powerful and collectible artifact of German Jugendstil design, combining animal symbolism, sacred geometry, and flowing form into a deeply expressive work of decorative art.
