Late Ptolemaic (ca. 2nd or 1st century B.C.E.)
This Late Ptolemaic shabti, dating to approximately the 2nd to 1st century BCE, is a fascinating example from ancient Egyptian funerary practices. Shabtis—also called ushabtis or shawabtis—were small, mummiform figurines placed in tombs to serve as servants for the deceased in the afterlife, performing agricultural and ritual tasks on their behalf.
This figure is likely made of fired faience painted in blue glaze. The figure bears a tripartite wig and has crossed arms holding hoes or agricultural tools. There are hieroglyphic inscriptions accross the body.
