17th c. / early 18th c. (Kangxi)
This blue and white porcelain saucer, dating to the Kangxi period (1662–1722) of the Qing dynasty, reflects the technical mastery and elegance that made Kangxi ceramics so highly prized. Small and delicate, the saucer is painted in underglaze cobalt blue on a fine, translucent white body, characteristic of Jingdezhen porcelain production during this golden age.
The decoration features floral sprays, scrolling foliage, and landscape motifs, rendered with crisp brushwork and a confident hand. Kangxi blue-and-white wares are celebrated for their deep, vibrant cobalt, which often appears slightly shaded in places, creating a sense of depth and movement in the design.
Used as part of tea or dining services, these saucers embody the refined taste for elegant, scholarly aesthetics in the Kangxi court, while also catering to the thriving export market. Today, Kangxi blue-and-white porcelain is admired for its balance of precision and liveliness, and a saucer like this would have been both a functional item and a small work of art.
