Mid/Late Ayutthaya Period (1351 to 1767)

This mid-to-late Ayutthaya period bronze Buddha head, dating from the 17th to 18th century, reflects the spiritual grace and artistic refinement of Thai Buddhist sculpture during one of the kingdom’s most culturally rich eras. Cast in bronze and originally part of a larger seated or standing figure, the head features the classic flame-like ushnisha, arched eyebrows, downcast eyes, and a gentle smile of serenity—all hallmarks of Ayutthaya craftsmanship meant to convey the Buddha’s enlightened state.

The Ayutthaya style blends influences from earlier Sukhothai and Khmer traditions but is distinguished by a slightly fuller face, more pronounced features, and elegant, idealized expressions. Once venerated in a temple or shrine, this head now stands as a powerful fragment of Thailand’s Buddhist heritage—an object of contemplation that carries the peaceful presence and artistic mastery of a bygone era.
