Nuremberg, Germany
17th Century
This 17th-century Nuremberg candlestick, crafted in the classic bell form, is a striking example of German metalwork from the early Baroque period. Made of brass, the candlestick features a broad, flared base shaped like an inverted bell, giving it both stability and visual weight. The stem tapers upward in a series of turned sections, culminating in a cylindrical socket to hold a candle securely.
What sets this piece apart is its delicate hand-chased floral engraving which decorates the surface with scrolling vines and stylized blooms. These ornamental details add a refined, decorative touch to a functional object, reflecting the blend of practicality and elegance.
Condition: Repair to base and shaft rejoined with base. Hole in socket has been patched.
