Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392)
This Goryeo dynasty dish (918–1392 CE) is a refined example of early Korean celadon ware, celebrated for its luminous glaze and graceful form. Shallow and rounded with a slightly everted rim, the dish rests lightly on its base and demonstrates the balance and elegance associated with Goryeo ceramics.
The glaze is a soft bluish-green celadon, admired in its time for its resemblance to polished jade. Visible on the interior are five small points from stilt marks, left by the ceramic supports used in the kiln to prevent stacking vessels from fusing together during firing. These tiny scars are considered a hallmark of authenticity in Goryeo ware and a reminder of the complex firing process.
