1811

This absolutely stunning calligraphy was made in 1811 by a teacher Jacob G Trego as an award for merit to one of his students. It features a boldly drawn eagle with the union shield on its chest clutching arrows in one foot and an olive branch in the other. The eagle is flanked above by two flags drawn in red and blue. Below the eagle is the word Washington drawn with incredible skill and attention to detail. Below that is a quote from Napoleon reading "Washington can never be otherwise than well. The measure of his fame is full. Posterity will talk of him with reverence as the founder of a great empire, while my name shall be lost in the vortex of revolutions" On the bottom is the dedication to the student signed Jacob B Trego 1811.

The document is in nice shape overall with fading to the red color as is typical with documents from this period. Also there are a few minor holes near the bottom and a few tiny tears smaller than 1" long. Also some mild toning and foxing in some areas.

22 5/8" tall and 16" wide with the frame
