A pair of square cut-glass scent bottles, each engraved with ribbon bows and swags and cut with fluting at the base. The screw caps are silver, enamelled in translucent royal blue over a zigzag guilloché ground, with white and black bands at the edges and a white ring on top. The silver collars are struck with a small French hallmark and gilded inside.
Bottles like these came from a lady's dressing case. Translucent enamel over engine-turned silver was the height of fashion around 1900, made famous by Fabergé, and the bow-and-swag engraving looks back to the court of Marie Antoinette.
Condition: One inner glass stopper missing; the other stopper has a chip.
