A silver-plated barber's jug with a hinged domed lid, a lip spout, a tall scroll handle and a stepped foot. One side is engraved with a crest of a bird holding a branch.
Jugs like this held hot water for shaving. Marked under the foot with "23", a maker's mark and "38".
Condition: One side with a slight dent. Wear to the plating, with base metal showing in places.
