Gold-Top Cane

Leave your email and a short note, and we'll get back to you about this piece.

A gentleman's walking cane with an ebonized wooden shaft and a gold top. The top is chased with scrolls and flowers around the sides, and the flat crown is engraved with a script monogram. It ends in a brass ferrule.

Around 1900 a gold-topped cane was part of a well-dressed man's outfit, like a pocket watch or a good hat. They were common presentation gifts for retirements, anniversaries and elections, and the owner's initials were usually engraved on the crown.

Condition: Loss to the paint, some loss to the top in areas, and small dents.
