c. 200 BC–AD 300
A round-bottomed pottery bowl. The outside is painted in bold bands of red slip on cream that curve around the body. Inside, a central spiral is surrounded by rings of small hatched squares like tiles, framed by black bands and a dotted border below the rim.
West Mexican shaft-tomb peoples buried their dead in chambers cut deep into the rock, with pottery figures and vessels to take with them. Bowls like this held food offerings. Finding one with both sides this well preserved, after two thousand years underground, is unusual.
