Fujian, China
Song Dynasty
This Qingbai ewer, dating to the Song Dynasty (960–1279 CE), is a delicate and refined example of early Chinese porcelain, produced in Fujian province. Crafted from fine porcelain clay and coated in a soft, greenish-blue glaze, the piece embodies the ethereal beauty characteristic of Qingbai ware—so named for its pale, translucent glaze that evokes the clarity of blue-tinged ice.
The ewer’s form is both graceful and functional, with a rounded body, arched handle, and curved spout, used for pouring wine. Its clean lines reflect the Song Dynasty’s deep appreciation for understated elegance and natural harmony. Qingbai wares were widely traded and admired for their lightweight feel and luminous surface.
