Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

1944

This celadon Rookwood dish, marked XLIV (44) for the year 1944 and model number 6817, is a graceful example of mid-20th-century American art pottery from the renowned Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio.

The dish features a scalloped rim, adding an elegant, floral-like softness to its form, and is finished in a translucent celadon glaze—a cool, pale green tone inspired by traditional Chinese ceramics. The glaze pools subtly in the recesses of the dish, enhancing the depth of the form and giving the piece a delicate, almost luminous quality.
