A walking cane with a bamboo shaft and a silver crook handle. The handle is fluted along its length and finishes in a round disc engraved with a script monogram, and the collar below is engraved with the date 1888. It ends in a metal ferrule.
Dated canes are uncommon. A date on the collar usually marks a presentation: a birthday, a wedding or a farewell gift. The crook shape, curved to hook over an arm or a chair back, became popular in the 1880s.
