Tibet

18th Century

A wonderful Tibetan Bronze ewer dating to the late 18th century. The ewer features a figural octagonal spout in the form of a makara, which is a sea creature often found in the folklore of the region as half terrestrial animal and half sea creature. The handle is cast as a dragon with hand incised scaling leading down to the terminal. The underside of the ewer atypically features a “shou” character which can also be found on the bottom of the interior of the vessel.

9.5" tall

wear and minor denting.
