France

19th Century

This Sarreguemines transferware plate, measuring 7 inches, is part of the "Nemrod" series, inspired by the renowned 18th-century wildlife engravings of Johann Elias Ridinger. Produced in France, this antique plate features a striking elk scene, rendered in fine transfer-printed detail, capturing the natural grace and power of the animal. The Nemrod series, named after the biblical hunter Nimrod, reflects a fascination with hunting culture and wildlife, making these plates highly collectible among lovers of sporting art and antique ceramics.

Sarreguemines, a well-respected French faience and porcelain manufacturer, was known for its high-quality transferware, often produced for the European and American markets. This plate, with its crisp black or brown transfer decoration against a classic white background, would have originally been part of a larger hunting-themed service. Today, it remains a prized collector’s piece, valued for its artistry, historical significance, and connection to the golden age of French ceramics.
