Postclassic Period (900–1521)
This Mixtec vase features a striking red baluster-shaped form, showcasing the refined ceramic artistry of the Postclassic Period (circa 900–1521 CE). Its surface is etched with a complex arrangement of geometric iconography, including spirals, stepped motifs, and fan-shaped elements—all of which held deep symbolic meaning in Mesoamerican visual language. These motifs may represent natural forces, cosmological concepts, or sacred geography, reflecting the Mixtec worldview where art, ritual, and storytelling were deeply intertwined.
