China
Jin Dynasty (266-420 CE)
This small Yue bowl, likely from the Eastern Jin dynasty, is a beautifully understated example of early Chinese celadon ware, produced in the famed Yue kilns of Zhejiang province. Crafted from fine stoneware and high-fired in a reducing atmosphere, the bowl is covered in a smooth green glaze. What makes this example particularly striking are the brown spots scattered across the rim. These flecks create a gentle contrast against the cool green body, adding warmth and visual interest while maintaining the overall sense of calm and refinement that defines Yue ware.
Condition: There is a loss to the rim as-made before firing, which has been glazed over.
